Dry Needling is a powerful medical technique that helps to reduce pain, muscle tension and improve mobility. It is used in a variety of musculoskeletal problems including, but not limited to, acute or chronic injuries, headaches, neck pain, back pain, tendonitis, muscle spasms, sciatica, hip or knee pain, muscle strains, fibromyalgia, tennis or golfer’s elbow, repetitive strain injuries, and much more. A very fine monofilament needle penetrates the skin and treats underlying muscular trigger points for the management of neuromusculoskeletal pain and movement impairments helping to reduce pain, decrease muscle tension and increase mobility. This treatment technique provides an environment that enhances the body’s ability to heal which ultimately reduces pain. Dry Needling is not acupuncture, although both use needles, the techniques are very different. Dry needling it is based on a modern scientific study of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems. While the name of the procedure may sound intimidating, dry needling is safe, minimally discomforting and often an effective technique for patients with certain musculoskeletal presentations. Dry needling is a powerful treatment that when in used with conjunction with our other physiotherapy treatments and prescriptive exercise, can help you relieve your pain and improve your function. The needles that we use are packed separately, used only once before being discarded ethically. If you are not a fan of needles, don’t worry! There are many other techniques that we can use to help restore painfree function.
